Enjoyable weather is rare in Houston, so it’s understandable you’d want to take advantage of it as much as possible with a meal or a refreshing drink outdoors. From lively beer gardens to stylish restaurant patios to scenic outdoor dining spots, Houston has plenty of places to enjoy a beautiful day or evening with friends and loved ones.

Favorite Local Patios to Hangout:

1. d’Alba

Location

Garden Oaks: 3715 Alba Road, Houston, TX 77018

If you’re looking for a neighborhood patio with a stylish atmosphere and an elevated menu, d’Alba is worth adding to your list. Located in the Garden Oaks / Oak Forest  area, this modern, American-style restaurant pairs fresh, delicious dishes with craft cocktails and an absolutely beautiful outdoor space. Even better, the entire patio is dog-friendly, so you can bring your four-legged friend along for the outing! But don’t take our word for it… check out our tour to see for yourself!

2. Heights & Co.

Location

The Heights: 1343 Yale Street, Houston, TX 77008

Heights & Co. brings a little extra charm to outdoor dining with its inviting patio featuring quaint pergola lighting and relaxed garden vibes. Pair the setting with the bar’s creative cocktails and delicious menu for a fun date night, weekend brunch, or evening out with friends! The covered pergola also makes the patio a great outdoor option even when Houston’s weather is a little unpredictable.

3. Daily Gather

Location

City Centre: 800 Sorella Court, Suite 940, Houston, TX 77024

Located in the City Centre of the Memorial area, Daily Gather is a welcoming spot for enjoying some seasonal American fare in a relaxing outdoor environment. Its patio overlooks the City Centre’s central plaza, giving you a front-row seat to the surrounding activities, outdoor events, and people-watching! Stop by for weekend brunch, a casual lunch, or happy hour with friends, and enjoy a patio that makes lingering over a meal feel like it was always part of the plan.

4. Axelrad

Location

Midtown: 1517 Alabama Street, Houston, TX 77004

Axelrad Beer Garden is a Houston favorite among those looking for a laid-back outdoor hangout. Known for its eclectic atmosphere, colorful hammocks, picnic tables, and leafy outdoor space, you can grab a drink, enjoy food from rotating vendors or the famous Luigi’s Pizzeria next door, and settle in for live music, film screenings, community events, or just a fun night with friends. Whether you’re meeting people or looking for a relaxing place to spend an evening outside, Axelrad offers plenty of reasons to stay awhile!

While they are dog-friendly all the time (even providing treats and water), Axelrad only allows minors until 9 PM.

5. Back Table

Location

The Woodlands: 2301 North Millbend Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77380

For a wonderful patio experience that makes you feel like you’re at a resort, Back Table is a popular choice in the Houston area. Actually located in The Woodlands Resort, its patio offers a relaxing change of pace from the bustle of the city, making it a lovely option for a leisurely meal, special occasion, or just an evening out. Plus, the thoughtfully prepared dishes and drinks make a great excuse for a dinner that feels like a mini getaway!

6. Betsy’s

Location

Bellaire: 4400 Bellaire Blvd, Bellaire, TX 77401

If your ideal patio outing includes good food, refreshing drinks, and a comfortable place to catch up with friends, Betsy’s is a place you’ll want to add to your Houston dining list. It’s a great spot to grab a casual meal while getting together with friends or family. They even do special daily events every week (like a super fun charity bingo), so be sure to check their calendar before you go!

Unfortunately, Betsy’s and the entire Evelyn Park is not dog-friendly.

Tips for Enjoying Patio Season in Houston

Houston patio weather can be wonderful while it lasts, but you’ll still need to do a little planning... Keep these tips in mind before heading out:

  • Check the forecast. If anything, you can count on Houston weather to be unpredictable. A beautiful summer day can quickly turn to a downpour, while a crisp fall morning can easily become a sweltering, humid evening.

  • Check for shade & fans. Covered patios and outdoor cooling features can make a big difference in your experience on any day of the year in Houston….

  • Call ahead for availability. Popular patios can fill up quickly during nice weekends and pleasant-weather evenings, or even be closed for a special event.

  • Check pet policies. If you’re looking to bring your pup along, confirm that the outdoor seating area is dog-friendly before you get there.
